What to Expect During ProFractional Laser Treatment

Whether you want a small touchup to fine lines or wrinkles or a dramatic rejuvenation of deep facial folds, customized treatment with the Profractional laser can be made just for you! Here is everything you need to know about this skin resurfacing treatment before you schedule your consultation.

What is Profractional Laser Treatment?

Profractional laser treatment is also called fractional laser resurfacing or fractional ablative laser resurfacing. This non-invasive technique uses a small laser beam to target specific areas of the skin for skin concerns like fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, and heavy creases.

How Does It Work?

The term “ablative” means that the laser will destroy skin cells. By creating narrow channels deep in the dermis layer of the skin, your body’s natural wound healing process will start. Part of this process is collagen production and collagen is an important protein that keeps your skin firm and plump. As new collagen and skin cells develop in the treated area, new, healthy skin will be resurfaced to smooth wrinkles, acne scars, and signs of aging.

How Long Do Results Last?

You will start to see results within a few weeks, but the best results can be seen after six months once the deeper layers of your skin have had time to regrow. After six months, if you don’t see the results you were hoping for, you can return for a second treatment to achieve smoother, brighter skin. The results of this treatment and your beautiful, youthful skin will last for years but it is important to maintain a good skincare routine to optimize the longevity of your results.

How is It Different from Other Laser Treatments?

Other laser resurfacing treatments will remove the entire outer layer of skin but the Profractional laser uses channels that only affect parts of the treatment site. This reduces the risk of infection, scarring, and discoloration that can result from full-field resurfacing. The laser is customizable and can be set to different intensities to treat surface conditions like fine lines and sun damage or conditions like deep creases and facial folds.
