Brow Lift

Time and gravity can be the biggest challenge to retaining tight, youthful skin in the upper face. The forehead can become wrinkled and lined, and the eyes can become weighed down with excess, baggy skin.  A brow lift can reverse the effects of aging and restore a smooth forehead and youthful, awake eyes.

What is a Brow Lift?

A brow lift uses incisions to lift and reposition the skin of the forehead on top of the underlying tissues, which can often be removed if they are causing unwanted sag. Incisions can be located within the hairline, forehead, or upper eyelids. An endoscope may also be used, which requires smaller incisions and allows the Gulfport plastic surgeon to see the muscular structures through a video feed.

Who should consider a Brow Lift?

Patients best suited to a brow lift are those who have a constant sad or angry expression due to aging skin that weighs down on the brow line and eye hood. Frown lines between the eyebrows are a good indication that a brow lift would be beneficial, as is the ability to lift the skin of the brow and reveal the upper eyelid.

What happens during the procedure?

After being administered an anesthetic, your surgeon will make one or more incisions using the following techniques:

  • Coronal incisions are cut from above the ear and all the way across the top of the scalp.
  • Endoscopic procedures use shorter, smaller incisions in the same pattern as the coronal in order to facilitate the endoscope.
  • If the procedure is being coupled with a blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery, incisions in the upper eyelid will be combined with one of the above techniques.

After the underlying tissue is removed, tightened, or rearranged, the skin is re-draped in a tighter position and any excess skin is trimmed away. The incisions are then sutured.

Results and recovery

Swelling around the eyes and tightness across the head and brow can be expected after the procedure, but ice and medication can help manage this, along with any pain. Some downtime will be necessary, but a full recovery can be expected within a few weeks to a month. Results can last a lifetime with proper skin care, and sagging and other aging signs will only minimally return.
