Labiaplasty

Are you experiencing pain or lack of confidence due to your labia shape or size? Labiaplasty is a great way to minimize insecurity and discomfort caused by the shape of your labia. During a labiaplasty procedure, your doctor will either reshape, enlarge, or reduce the size of your inner or outer labia.

What is Labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that changes the size of your labia through reduction or enlargement. Patients receive this surgery to change the size or shape of the labia. Labia are all unique in their own ways and come in various shapes and sizes. There is no standard way for them to look. However, you may want to alter the appearance for your comfort or personal preferences.

Your labia are the skin folds surrounding your vaginal opening. The outer folds are called the labia majora, meaning large lips. The labia majora protect your external genital organs. The inner folds are the labia minora, meaning small lips. These protect your urethra and vagina.

Based on your decided procedure, it may include tissue removal, reconstruction from other tissue, or fat injection into the labia.

Who Should Consider Labiaplasty?

If you are insecure because of the appearance of your labia or if you have any discomfort from tight clothing, exercising, or sexual intimacy, labiaplasty is a good option for you.

What is the Labiaplasty Procedure Like?

Labiaplasty is an operation that is done under general anesthesia and typically takes an hour or less to perform. You may have special instructions regarding sitting, using the bathroom, and cleaning that your doctor will discuss with you before and after surgery. It is not typically a very painful operation to have, and most patients will transition to over-the-counter pain medication within a day or two.

Procedures

Trim/Wedge

During this technique, your doctor removes tissue from the labia minora, ensuring it is even with the inside edges of the labia majora.

Fat Transfer

During a liposuction procedure, your surgeon will take a small amount of fat from another area in the body and transfer it into the labia majora in order to increase the size and/or fill in deflation.

Results and Recovery

After the procedure, you will notice some initial pain, redness, and swelling. This pain is easy to manage with over-the-counter medication. You may need more potent medicines for a couple of days. Cold packs may reduce swelling and discomfort. The pain should subside after a few days. Oral or topical antibiotics can be prescribed to help prevent infection in the sensitive area. You will be instructed to wear loose clothing during healing to avoid irritating the area.

Your results will be visible immediately. Swelling is very common and can take up to three months to resolve. Final results will be evident by three months post-operative.
